Jennifer Love Hewitt

by Meehna Goldsmith

Gevril WatchesGoing into its 10th season the police procedural Criminal Minds is getting a fresh face and character with Jennifer Love Hewitt joining the cast alongside Joe Mantegna and Shemar Moore. Starting in October, she will be introduced to audiences playing FBI agent Kate Callahan, whose work has gotten her an invitation to the coveted Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). The unit tracks the most dangerous criminal minds, studying them in attempts to stop them from wreaking terror and havoc on the public. These people are referred to as unsubs or “unknown subjects”.

Though one of the younger agents, Hewitt’s character Callahan is wise and savvy from her eight years on the force. She has a background in criminal psychology and works from the heart to make the world a safer place. In her backstory, Callahan has endured a lot of personal loss that makes her not only an ardent patriot but also a nurturing person.

Hewitt started her career out in commercials but vaulted to the public’s attention with her role on the popular television series Party of Five. She later achieved stardom on the screen with the horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer. In addition to acting, Hewitt is also a writer, director and producer. This talented actress even sings. Atlantic Records and Jive Records both have signed her to their labels in the pop genre. Her most successful single thus far was the 1999 release How Do I Deal.

Actors obviously create their characters through behavior but wardrobe, including accessories, also contributes to defining a character. Callahan reveals her more feminine side by the watch she chooses to wear. Around her wrist is the Gevril Avenue of Americas Glamour model 6209NE. It makes not only practical sense for a BAU agent to wear a watch but also makes symbolic sense since time is of the essence in tracking a criminal.

Hewitt is very enthusiastic about her Gevril. She says, “I love this watch so much! Makes watching time fly more fun.”

Colors of Spring/Summer 2015 Women’s Fashion and Watches

Elie Saab By Paris Couture Week Spring/Summer 2015

It may still be cold outside, but when it comes to fashion, spring is already here. Racks are already overflowing with next season’s palette of pastel and Easter egg inspired hues complemented by soft, earthy neutrals. Eager to get into those juicy spring colors early? Luckily, accessories are getting the same color treatment and they’re ready to be shown off right away.

Scuba Blue

Elie Saab is ready for a summer getaway with this bohemian chic tie-dye gown with sequin detailing. Pick up the ocean- and sunset-inspired hues of the dress by pairing it with the equally colorful Ferragamo Lirica. Thanks to a diamond-embellished, mother of pearl dial face, this watch will not be outdone by the shimmering sequins of its counterpart.

Strawberry Ice

Cushnie et Ochs’ ladylike, pastel cocktail dress is as sexy as it is sweet thanks to a sheer panel showing off a flash of leg. Elevate the look even further with a pink Ferragamo Minuetto with mother of pearl face and diamond detailing. The only accessory you’ll still be missing is a strawberry ice cream cone to complete the look. Careful not to drip…

Tangerine

Summer doesn’t just mean dressing for the beach or resort. This Gucci girl is ready to turn heads in the street of Milan in a drop shoulder tangerine dress with scarf detail around the neck. Suede ankle booties, a woven belt and round sunglasses keep the 70s vibe of the dress intact. Fellow Italian fashion powerhouse Versace offers an equally sunny complement with the Versace Vanity and its tangerine face and band. Iconic elements like the brand’s Medusa hardware and Greek key pattern make this a classic in the making.

Custard

This Erin Fetherston dress may have a simple silhouette but it’s anything but basic thanks to its delicate metallic embroidery, intricate floral pattern, and sensual cutout just below the bustline. When paired with a classic pump it’s a perfect look for an elegant garden party. The ultimate finishing touch is a watch that also doubles as jewelry like the limited edition Gevril Avenue of Americas Glamour with a custard yellow strap and rectangular face rimmed with a whopping 187 full cut diamonds totaling more than two carats.

Marsala

Cropped pants are all the rage right now and this Jenny Packham iteration with an embellished waistband and equally embellished blouse is airy and quintessentially chic. Perfect for a warm, summer night out on the town, this sleek, contemporary style begs for an equally contemporary watch like an Johan Eric Orstead with its matching wine-colored satin strap and unique perforated face.

Glacier Gray

Avant garde designer Haider Ackermann makes gray anything but gloomy by combining rich tones and varied textures. There’s only one thing missing – a sleek silver watch like the Ferragamo Grande Maison. The abstract design of the mother of pearl face has an edgy, modern feel that would fit seamlessly into this stern but elegant glacier gray masterpiece of an outfit.

Aquamarine

This season, there’s no such thing as too many shades of blue according to the queen of colorblocking Roksanda Ilincic. This outfit combines aquamarine and sky blue, set off by a flourish of intense red on the underside of a billowy pleat that extends across the left shoulder. If you’re going to be bold, either go big or go home. And this dress goes all out. Top off the look with this turquoise, monochromatic Versus Tokyo. Though the strap looks metallic, the unexpected use of rubber makes the piece especially fashion-forward.

Get into the spirit of spring early this year by embracing this warm and welcoming palette of colors that will make the cold and washed out winter seem like a lifetime ago.

Salvatore Ferragamo Spring Summer 2015 Runway Show

When it comes to accessorizing, women have loads of options. For a man, the single most important accessory is the watch on his wrist. With spring right around the corner it’s time to refresh your look with by matching the hottest colors of the season in your dress and timepiece. Colors that are getting attention this spring are perennial classics like navy blue and charcoal gray, as well as earthy tones like burgundy and olive green.

Use your watch as a chance to make a bold statement that complements your new look. Keep your eyes peeled for unique details like graphic face designs, exhibition windows, embossed leather and, of course, a great pop of color.

Marsala

The double-breasted suit is a resurgent classic, but Dolce&Gabbana adds an eye-catching twist as only they can. To begin, D&G started with a rich, Marsala hue and then set it off with contrasting gray detailing on the lapels, buttons, and pockets. A vest just barely peeking out and ultra skinny tie finish off the look. The only thing that’s missing is this limited edition, Gevril Avenue of the Americas with its burgundy, alligator-embossed band and oversized rose gold numbers on the face. This one-of-a-kind timepiece, one of only 500 in existence, is the perfect accessory to make you stand out from the crowd.

Dusk Blue

On a crisp day in early spring, a stylish summer jacket like this one from Fendi is a must. This material combines preppy plaid and a smart casual cut with shades of denim blue and a bohemian tie-dye effect for an unexpected and unique piece. When paired with a simple chino, this jacket will really pop and turn heads when you walk down the street. Pick up the shades of dusky denim throughout the jacket with the graphic planetarium pattern face of this polished and brushed stainless-steel Gattinoni Draco timepiece.

Woodbine

Olive green is a menswear staple thanks to its versatility and military vibe. But brands like Y Project are elevating this cool, neutral color by applying it to upscale fabrics like this tailored short paired with a motorcycle jacket-inspired topper and matching t-shirt. Keep a bit of a rugged touch to the look with the Fortis Flieger Cockpit. The nylon strap and compass-inspired face with luminous hands and hour markers make it a watch that can go from camping to cocktails.

Classic Blue

If there’s one color that never gets old it’s blue. No matter which shade of blue you choose, you can’t go wrong with this classic color. One essential staple is a Breton stripe shirt like this one from Michael Kors. Kors pairs the top with a cuffed jean and braided leather sandals and belt for the ultimate summer look. If you prefer a clean and classic look try the limited edition, stainless steel Ferragamo Lungarno Chronograph.

Glacier Gray

Daring trendsetters are all about playing with the proportions of classic suits. The Christopher Lemaire sleek, dove gray suit is a perfect example of how a classic suit can be experimented with. Oversized jacket pockets, a sweatpant-style cuff on the pants, and a relaxed overall fit make this look casual despite being a suit. The Rudiger Stuttgart is also sophisticated with a twist thanks to an exhibition window in the face, showing off the watch’s beautiful mechanics. Break up the gray palette with a black calfskin strap with alligator pattern.

Titanium

Dolce & Gabbana’s double-breasted suit has an entirely different feel in charcoal gray instead of burgundy. The classic gray pinstripe makes the suit office appropriate but the addition of a contrast lapel and patterned shirt and tie add enough style to wow on a night on the town. Add another lighthearted touch with the Gevril Columbus Circle, which incorporates the astrological symbols for days of the week as a whimsical, conversation-starting detail.

What are you waiting for? Mix things up and try these coordinating looks on for size.

Gevril Avenue of Americas Sport Watch Collection - 5050

by Adrian Herscovici

A New Sport Version of a Gevril Classic

Gevril WatchesMost people with an eye for fine watches are familiar with Gevril’s Avenue of Americas collection, the jewel in the brand’s crown since 2001. Like other Gevril collections, these watches are named after a famous New York landmark, in this case a prominent lower Manhattan thoroughfare called Avenue of the Americas, also known as Sixth Avenue.

Until now the Avenue of Americas lineup consisted primarily of highly refined dress watches. This year, however, Gevril is adding a slightly more casual version with the introduction of the men’s Avenue of Americas Sport. Even at a distance the overall look of the watch remains unmistakable, with a rectangular curved case measuring 44 x 34 mm, large scripted numerals and art deco style.

Two variations comprise the Avenue of Americas Sport collection, each a limited edition release of 500 pieces worldwide. The first has an IP black stainless steel case; the second has an IP “gun metal” stainless steel case.

The big difference in the appearance of the Avenue of Americas Sport versus other Avenue of Americas watches is the design of the dial. Unlike previous editions that have numeral markers at every hour, the Sport model has numerals only at 12 and 6 o’clock. The remaining hour markers are represented by luminous white bars, proportional to the numerals and stemming from the dial’s circular core. An open date wheel, exposed in four sections, is the focal point. The current date is marked at 4 o’clock by a small two-prong fork affixed by way of a hexagonal screw, one of four such screws connecting the center plate above the date wheel. At the center of this plate is an engraved pattern featuring a circular web, which complements the engraved concentric ring pattern on the outer part of the dial.

The hour and minute hands are also much sportier, with wide skeletonized bodies and large luminous triangular tips that are easy to read, day or night. A red sweeping seconds hand adds a burst of color on the otherwise tonal palette.

The introduction of the Sport collection means there is now an alternative within the Avenue of Americas lineup for those who want to own a less formal version of this classic timepiece. The look is quintessential Avenue of Americas, including familiar components such as the padded leather calfskin strap with tang buckle, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and Swiss made automatic movement visible through an exhibition caseback. But the dial design completely changes its personality and adds to its versatility, making it a watch that many collectors will appreciate and want to own. Contact your local authorized Gevril dealer to inquire about availability.

Sting Wears Gevril Avenue of Americas GMT Power Reserve Watch

by John Sealander

With a dual time zone Gevril Avenue of Americas GMT Power Reserve on his wrist, Sting won’t need to worry about forgetting his birthday again.

Legendary singer, songwriter, actor and activist Sting is one of the most recognizable musicians in the world. On his own and as a member of The Police, Sting has received sixteen Grammy Awards, plus a Golden Globe, an Emmy and several Oscar nominations. This globe-trotting rocker is a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

With a career that has taken him around the world many times, it is not surprising that Sting occasionally loses track of the time. Once, while playing a concert in California, Sting glanced down at his watch and tried to calculate the time difference to London. It was only when he realized that it was already eight hours later in London, that he knew he had forgotten his own birthday.

When Steven Jay of Gevril Group heard this story from his friend and fellow Sting band member Chris Botti, he knew it was time for a belated birthday present. Botti, who had played trumpet with Sting’s touring band for over three years, agreed to set up a meeting between Sting and Steven Jay.

Chris Botti felt like Sting’s October 19th 2004 “Sacred Love” concert at Madison Square Garden would be the perfect time to present the singer with a surprise birthday present. After the concert, Gevril representative Steven Jay was warmly welcomed backstage where Sting was presented with a special, handmade, limited edition, Gevril Avenue of Americas GMT Power Reserve timepiece with dual time zones.

Sting loved the impressive looking watch and immediately exclaimed “an early Christmas present?!” It was at this point that Steven revealed the story of how he had learned of Sting’s difficulties in calculating London time on his old watch at the California concert. He then told Sting that the Avenue of the Americas timepiece was in fact a belated birthday gift from his friends at Gevril.

Now, wherever Sting’s travels take him, he’ll never need to worry about forgetting his birthday again. In its own way, the massive 18K rose gold Avenue of Americas timepiece is a superstar as well. This special limited edition dual time zone watch is one of the finest timepieces ever made and has long been a favorite of celebrities. On stage and off, this Swiss made performer seems right at home on the wrist of the one and only Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner.

She’s funny, brash, outlandish, scandalous, “plastic” and downright rude! Call her what you want but Joan Rivers is at 79, still a major celebrity. Born Joan Alexandra Molinsky and raised in Brooklyn New York, she found fame in mocking the absurdities of her own life as well as Hollywood’s most celebrated tabloid newsmakers.

Joan Rivers, Wearing Her Gevril 'Glamour' TimepieceAfter graduating from Barnard College in 1954 with a BA in both English Literature and Anthropology, she hopped from job to job trying to find her niche. She worked as a Tour Guide at Rockefeller Center, a proofreader and as a fashion consultant. It was agent Tony Rivers that suggested she adopt a new last name to support her desire for a career in acting.

She began her career in New York Theater during the late 1950’s and transitioned into television during the early 1960’s. She made her first television appearance on The Tonight Show, when Jack Paar hosted the program. Soon after, Johnny Carson replaced Mr. Paar and made Joan the first sole guest of the show.

It proved to be the propulsion that would take her career to the next level. She would later go on to host her own talk shows; The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers and The Joan Rivers Show for which she won her first Emmy, in 1989.

In addition to being one of the worlds most famous comedians, Joan Rivers is a also a woman of fabulous style, so much so that she is regularly found on “Best Dressed” lists from around the world. From 1996 thru 2007 she found herself putting those fashion skills to good use. She hosted, alongside her daughter Melissa, the “Red Carpet” pre-award shows for E!, and was a reporter of celebrity fashion for TV Guide. Those who fell into Joan’s good graces were richly rewarded with accolades and those who did not became the fodder for scathing satirical criticism.

It was during this period that Joan was introduced to Gevril by their V.P. of Public Relations, Steven Jay. As Steven explains; “Joan was looking for an oversized watch with a lot of ‘bling’ to wear for reporting from the Oscars ‘Red Carpet’. When she got a look at the ‘Avenue of Americas Glamour’ with its 44mm rectangular case, red mother of pearl dial and 2.25 carats of diamonds, she knew it was exactly what she was looking for.” She loved the timepiece so much; she not only wore it on the “Red Carpet”, but on her post Oscars show, The Fashion Police, and continues to regularly wear it at the many prestigious social gatherings she attends.

Martin Sheen to Help Son Charlie with “Anger Management”

by Steven Jay

He has played every role from President on The West Wing, to veteran U.S. Army special operations officer in the legendary film Apocalypse Now. However perhaps the most challenging role Martin Sheen has ever faced is that of father to children Emilio, Ramon, Carlos (Charlie) and Renée.

Born Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez to immigrant parents in Dayton Ohio, his affinity for both acting, as well as political activism was evident from a young age. At 14 while working as a golf caddy, he organized a strike of all golf caddies due to the mean and foul language he and his co-workers endured from the clubs members. He felt that men of such esteem and position should not be using “abusive and anti-Semitic” language in front of the young boys. Later he would go on to achieve renown not only for his acting prowess but for his more than 60 arrests for civil disobedience in support of issues ranging from apartheid, racism, homelessness to nuclear testing.

Although his father was against his desire to pursue acting, Sheen decided to give it a go. At the early age of 20, he borrowed money from a Catholic priest and moved to New York with hopes of making it in theater. Casting director Robert Dale Martin, with whom he received his first break into the industry, inspired his adoption of the stage name Martin Sheen.

Sheen quickly found success on stage as well as television but his real rise to stardom came in 1973 starring in the crime drama; Badlands. Sheen later gained worldwide recognition as Captain Willard in Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. His acting excellence has earned him a Golden Globe and 2 SAG awards for his role as President Bartlett in The West Wing, as well as an Emmy for his guest appearances in the sitcom Murphy Brown.

Fame and fortune do not come without a price and for Martin Sheen much of that price was paid by his family. For his children, being raised by a father who often times ruled their lives under the influence of alcohol and drugs has left indelible scars that remain to this day. Most evident is its effect on son, Charlie. An A-list actor in his own right, Charlie has led a roller coaster life of great success in his career and, unfortunately, devastating failure in his personal affairs.

Somewhere in the not so distant past Gevril Group’s Steven Jay had the chance to meet with Martin in Los Angeles during a photo-shoot for WatchTime Magazine. The shoot was for a feature in which Mr. Sheen was wearing his Gevril Avenue of Americas timepiece. Steven asked him for some parenting advice. Mr. Sheen was candid and explained, “If I had the chance to do it over again I would not have been so hard on my children physically, emotionally and spiritually.”

Second chances are becoming a reality for Martin Sheen as he assumes the on screen role of Charlie’s father in the hit FX comedy Anger Management. FX recruited the veteran actor in an attempt to transform the show into a multi-generational program that would attract a larger audience. For the Sheens it will be a time for healing, for the fans it will be a chance to be entertained by a father and son who happen to be two great actors while they do what they do best: act.

Chris Botti Wears Gevril Avenue of Americas GMT Power Reserve Watch

by Steven Jay

Grammy-nominated trumpet player, Chris Botti is the world’s best-selling jazz instrumentalist. He recently came off a six-week tour, performing with legendary vocalist Barbara Streisand as well as revisiting the prestigious Zeiterion Arts Center last week, dazzling those in attendance with his horn blowing genius.

In 2009 Chris recorded his DVD Live in Boston at the Zeiterion, so this event had special meaning for him. Rolling Stones backup singer Lisa Fischer joined Mr. Botti to help bring a variety of music styles into the performance. He performed songs from his most recent album Impressions which featured an amazing cast of musicians including Andrea Bocelli, Vince Gill and Herbie Hancock to name few.

Staying busy and keeping in touch with his audience is paramount to Botti. He firmly believes that in order for an artist to remain relevant he must continue to tour regularly, keeping himself and his music alive in the hearts and minds of his fans. Chris explains “You need to care about your audience and whether they are getting music that they love. A lot of artists, especially those in their 20s, say, ‘Oh, the road is too difficult. I’m going to take four years off.’ And then their audience goes, ‘Goodbye.’ I don’t want that to happen to me. I want to be able to tour well into my 60s or 70s if I can still play the horn.” Botti continues “You have to sacrifice a lot of life for the benefits of being able to walk on stage every night and be grateful that there is an audience there for you because they can just as easily spend their money and go download the latest and greatest thing and not come to your show,” said Botti. “That’s something that I’m well aware of.”

Chris is not only a talented world renowned musician, but a man who understands that you not only have to “play the part” but “look the part as well.” He established his trademark stage attire of fine suits on the recommendation of former Tonight Show trumpet player Doc Severinsen. He is quick to explain the wonderful feeling he experiences wearing fine clothing “The way my body moves inside a suit. They fit the body well, but they are also made of great fabric. It lays on you, it travels well and doesn’t get ruined or lose its shape.”

Botti is a fan of fine timepieces as well. Amongst his collection of Panerai and IWC is a Limited Edition Gevril Avenue of Americas GMT Power Reserve that he wore to Gevril’s worldwide launch event of the Avenue of Americas “Serenade.” The timepiece was a special gift from Gevril owner Samuel Friedmann. Botti attended the event in the company of other Gevril celebrity owners Mario Andretti, Joan Collins, Anne Hathaway as well as the late Paul Newman.

The Hottest Watches at Couture 2013 Las Vegas

Couture 2013 Las Vegas

by Adrian Herscovici

Live from Couture Las Vegas

Exhibitors, retailers and media from around the world are in Las Vegas this week for Couture – the most prestigious U.S. based watch and jewelry event of the year. Couture runs from May 30 to June 3 at the lavish Wynn Resort.

Now in its 17th year, Couture is thriving. Last year the number of timepiece exhibitors at the show doubled, drawing even greater attention to the current assembly of renowned international participants.

Gevril Group and its family of brands are on hand once again showcasing the latest novelties in the Chambertin 2 Ballroom at the Wynn Resort. A remarkable array of watches from Catorex, Ferragamo, Fortis, Gattinoni, Gevril, Gio Monaco, GV2, Haemmer, Haurex, Johan Eric, Jowissa, Louis Erard, Meccaniche Veloci, Rudiger, Versace, Versus and Viceroy are on display.

For some, Couture is a first look at the hottest watches of the year. Here is a taste of what guests are talking about this week.

Versace Vanitas

The Versace Vanitas cultivates elements from its ethereal cousins, the Reve and Eon collections, into a glamorous new design replete with quintessential Versace details along with a few new ones like an enamel dial with relief baroque pattern strewn with studs or diamonds. The deluxe white version pictured has diamonds on the dial and on the flange. The bezel is also enamel. The IP rose gold case is 40 mm in diameter and the movement is a Swiss made quartz Ronda 762.3. Dials are available in red, black or white enamel and the straps are available in red, black or white leather.

Versace DV One Skeleton

Versace’s clever and modish skeleton design combines the brand’s most iconic watch case – the DV One – with its celebrated fashion sensibility. Finishing techniques such as linear graining, polishing and perlage are visible on the Dubois Dépraz chronograph module and base movement. The case is a confident 43.5 mm and made from an alloy of ceramic and titanium. The result is an extremely hard and lightweight substance that is highly resistant to scratches. The bracelet and bezel are also made of ceramic titanium. The DV One Skeleton is produced in a limited edition of 500 pieces.

Ferragamo Lungarno

Ferragamo continues to expand in the mechanical watch category with the three-handed automatic Lungarno. The bezel, which riffs on designs by legendary watchmaker Gérald Genta, has all the qualities of a classic sports watch with an equal amount of Florentine styling. The brushed stainless steel case is 44 mm in diameter and the bezel is IP gold. The champagne-colored soleil dial pictured is one of three available; black and silver are the others. The dark brown leather strap is an elegant complement, but sportier steel or two-tone bracelets are also available.

Ferragamo Minuetto

Ferragamo introduced its Minuetto collection at Baselworld 2013. Minuetto, the Italian word for minuet, is a style of dance. Accordingly, the Minuetto collection introduces motion by way of a rotating gancino – the iconic symbol of Ferragamo. The gancino holds 32 diamonds and moves by way of a circular guilloche-patterned mount. The watch is 36 mm in diameter and available in either steel, IP rose gold or a two-tone combination. In addition to saffiano leather straps, the Minuetto can be had on a stainless steel bracelet. Minuetto watches contain Swiss made Ronda 762 quartz movements.

Gevril Avenue of Americas

Catch the blue trend with the newest watch in the Avenue of the Americas collection. The unmistakable 1930s deco styling of the 44 x 34 mm rectangular case and bezel are augmented by the addition of a jazzy blue PVD-coating, which also appears on the crown and buckle. The dial is dark blue as is the leather strap. Celebrated for the comfort of its slightly curved case, this three-handed model with a date function also boasts the dependability of an ETA 2892 movement – one of the most robust automatic movements available today.

Fortis Spacematic

Spacematic watches first appeared in the 1960s as a tribute to manned space travel and stand out for their sturdy utilitarian construction and highly legible dials. The latest model is 40 mm in diameter and has a brushed stainless steel case with an open-dial design, exposing the date and bilingual (English or German) day wheels. The movement is a robust ETA 2836-2. A range of straps in silicone, textile or leather, as well as a stainless steel bracelet provide additional versatility.

Versus Agadir

This jewelry-inspired design is named after the Moroccan coastal town of Agadir and features a red dial with a lion silhouette and matching lion silhouette charms. The bracelet, to which the charms attach, is composed of round chain links and is rich with ornamental appeal. The stainless steel case is coated with IP yellow gold, adding to the watch’s fiery personality. Only the delicate size of its 36 mm case provides counterpoise. The heart of this lion is a casbah-rocking Citizen 2025 quartz movement.

Versus Manhattan

Play it safe? Not Versus. The bright red Versus Manhattan bi-compax chronograph is a large 44 mm timekeeper that is sure to catch the attention of any warm-blooded watch lover. The unusual chronograph sub-dial placement is noteworthy, with a small 30-minute counter at 10 o’clock side-by-side with a large perpetual seconds counter at 2 o’clock. A large open-date wheel at 6 o’clock maintains the theme of good legibility. The quartz movement is an ISA Swiss 8171/202 with patented double rotor motor. The case is made of stainless steel and the strap is made of matching red rubber.

Gevril and GV2 Headline a Stellar Array of
Gevril Group Brands at Couture Las Vegas

Gevril WatchesThe Wynn Hotel’s Chambertin 2 Ballroom was home to many popular Gevril Group brands during the recently concluded Couture watch and jewelry show, including Gevril’s own Gevril and GV2 timepieces.

When Samuel Friedmann acquired historic Swiss watchmaker Gevril Horlogerie, he was determined to build on this company’s illustrious watchmaking heritage. The company’s signature Avenue of the Americas line is still popular today and is based on a case design that was discovered in Gevril’s historical archives. The distinctive retro look of this luxury timepiece, with its beveled dial and beautifully hand painted numbers, got a lot of attention from visitors at the Couture show.

A newer Gevril design, the unique Columbus Circle model also received a lot of favorable buzz at the show. The dial of this spectacular watch immediately catches your attention with a day/date display featuring a rotating inner dial with seven astrological symbols representing each day of the week. This watch is engraved with a beautiful etching of New York’s famed Columbus Circle on the case back and features an observation window revealing the precision Swiss made ETA 2834-2 automatic movement inside.

Prominently displayed at the front of the Gevril display case was the spectacular Gevril Serenade 5850. This stylish Art Deco design features a dual time-zone dial with white gold hands for the primary time zone and a blue, skeletonized hand for the secondary zone. Unique to this watch are two day/night disks at 3 and 9 o’clock that indicate AM or PM hours in their respective time zone. This exclusive timepiece is available in white gold, rose gold, or platinum in editions that are strictly limited to just 50 pieces worldwide.

Gevril’s trend-setting GV2 line was well represented at the Couture show by popular collections, including the GV2 Corsaro, Powerball and Parachute. The striking looking Corsaro made a big statement at this year’s show with an oversized two-layer 316L stainless steel case that harmoniously combines two very different angular and round geometries. This stylish, precision chronograph features a unique double layer textured dial with three well-placed subdials for timing events.

The GV2 Powerball has been a popular favorite since it was initially introduced. It is hard to ignore the amazing three-dimensional dial that calls attention to a continuous small second hand at 6 o’clock and the big date indicator at 12 o’clock. With a beautifully partially skeletonized dial that reveals the two date wheels below, just telling the time with this amazing watch can be a mesmerizing experience.

The rugged looking GV2 Parachute Chronograph is a precision timing instrument that makes quite a fashion statement as well. This spectacular diver style watch features a dramatic two-tone rotating diver bezel marked in 60-minute increments and three well-placed subdials for timing events. The oversize 45 mm stainless steel case is water resistant to 165 feet.

The activity in the Chambertin 2 Ballroom during this year’s Couture show suggests that, despite what the ads say, everything in Vegas doesn’t necessarily stay in Vegas. If the Gevril and GV2 order books are any indication, there are going to be a lot more of these amazing watches on people’s wrists all over the country this year.

Gevril WatchesThe Gevril name has been around since the mid 18th century when founder Jacques Gevril made his first chronometer in 1743. Gevril went on to achieve many accomplishments, such as inventing the repetition dial in 1744 and being appointed Royal Swiss Watchmaker to the Spanish Crown under King Ferdinand VI. The brand continued to pass through the generations maintaining a reputation for making fine watches and clocks, including a specialty in enamel dials. To give you an idea of the quality, the Wilsdorf family, the founder of Rolex, chose one of Gevril’s pocket watches to put on display in their own museum.

However, Gevril watches receded to the background until 2001 when Samuel Friedmann bought the rights to the name in order to rejuvenate the brand to its former glory.

All Gevril collections pay tribute to what many consider one of the greatest cities in the world: New York. The Avenue of Americas models take their name from that landmark street that runs through the Big Apple. Otherwise known as Sixth Avenue, Avenue of the Americas has played host to many grand buildings including the Hippodrome Theater, Radio City Music Hall, and one of the granddaddies of them all, Rockefeller Center. It is also the street of choice for the Village Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village.

Gevril Avenue of Americas Glamour Watch CollectionWith such a grand billing, the Gevril Avenue of Americas Glamour women’s watches have a lot to live up to-and they do. In a rectangular stainless steel case that curves to hug the wrist, these limited edition watches have a distinct Art Deco styling reminiscent of the 1930’s. The dial features a date at 6 o’clock and characteristic Arabic script hour markers that punch up the pizzazz.

The Avenue of Americas Glamour watch offers a mother-of-pearl dial in pink, light blue and white along with matching colored Alligator-textured leather straps. To give some sparkle to the piece, the Avenue of Americas Glamour watch has top Wesselton full cut diamonds embedded in the case and lugs ranging from a total of .58 to 2.21 carats.

Gevril adds even more distinction to the women’s Avenue of Americas Glamour line by putting in an automatic movement, as more and more women are realizing the beauty and value of a mechanical movement.
